Wardrobe Essential: Basic Black Pumps

Basic black pumps are the cornerstone of a good shoe collection. (If black isn't your basic color just substitute your neutral of choice for black). These are the go-to shoes. They go from day to night effortlessly. They go with everything. And they never go out of style. So if you don't have them, consider this an excuse to buy shoes! (As if you need an excuse...)

Here are some of this fall's choices for classic black pumps in a variety of heel heights and price points. Since they are a wardrobe essential, they should be a splurge purchase. However, one girl's splurge is another girl's rent so here's something for everyone.

The Super Splurges:

FMF Pick: The Cole Haan 'Carma Air Mid' Leather Pump for $275. These basic pumps come in a soft leather with Nike Air technology, which is a combination for ultimate comfort. The three inch heel height with the half inch platform is an ideal height for even a tiny foot. At just over half the price of the dreamy Christian Louboutin pumps, these classic shoes are the perfect investment for those who would rather eat and pay rent than spend $575 on shoes.

Under $100:

FMF Pick: The fft 'Milano' Pump for S99.95. If you can't reach the Cole Haan price tag, grab these super soft shoes. They sport amazing comfort and support for your feet. The three inch heel is also a good universal height. However if you crave a little more style and height, try the Steve Madden Engaged pumps for $58.90.

Under $50:

FMF Pick: The apt. 9 Modest Dress Heels for $37.99 from Kohl's. You're getting leather shoes for $37.99. That's a deal. The three and half inch heel may be a stretch for some, but shoe company's do tend to overstate heel heights to make them sound good so they might be fine. The style is perfectly classic, and they even say they have some padding for comfort. If you want to save even more try the Mossimo Pumps from Target, which cost $26.99. They offer plenty of comfort, but without the leather.
